The Sailplanes
are currently Stacey Hine (guitar/vocals), Tim Webster (guitar/vocals), Yola Rodowicz (drums, UK) and Daniel Kexel (drums, D). We got together in London with no pre-conceived notion as to where the band would go stylistically; just a mutual appreciation of noisy experimental music.

Our current release is a short album entitled ‘a second, or ten years later’. We have played approximately 80 shows in the UK and have worked independently- sending each release to webzines, internet radio, music engines such as Last.fm and streaming songs on Myspace. All of which has helped us gain interest from around the UK and as far afield as Europe and Japan.

We enjoy writing and recording new music and feel the continual self-release of new material helps us gain more exposure in the musically congested and partisan place that London is. This year has seen us take a more DIY approach through the release of CDR compilations of bands we admire and promotion of innovative and unusual nights under the Redheaded Stepchild Records tagline.

Our aim was never to make straightforward music for everyone to like. We try out different structures, time signatures and effects to keep boredom at bay. Music shouldn’t be predictable; we aim to draw people in. Our music is intense, noisy, played with conviction and without artifice. We’re doing this because being in a band is part of our lives.

As of the beginning of August 2007, Sailplanes have relocated to Berlin to write, gig and possibly record.
